First high school soccer game!

Introducing for Linganore HS number 14, Lily Gjerde!!!!!

I am so proud of Lily, last night she played in her first ever high school soccer game on the "football" field under the lights!  It was so exciting to hear her name over the loudspeaker!

We were not sure if she would play or not, because many of the girls have played travel soccer for years, but she did!  The coach put her in twice!  It was so exciting!  She is such a great team player!

So proud of all she has accomplished with soccer!

Honor Roll Again

So proud of Lily again!  She made the honor roll for her 2nd Quarter at LHS with a GPA of 3.75!  She is rocking high school!

Also this past weekend she tried a new ski, cross-country skiing.  We took a family vacation getaway to Canaan Valley, WV this past weekend.  Even though the weather did not cooperate, it was cold (-15 with wind chill) and blustery, she gave cross-country skiing her best effort! She was a natural.  I would love to take her again when it is not so miserable weather-wise!  We also enjoyed trekking (or shall I say sliding down the stairs), to a beautiful frozen waterfall in Blackwater Falls State Park.

J.V. Soccer Team

I am so proud of Lily.  She faced her fears and braved the nasty weather (cold, wet, and rainy), and tried out for the high school soccer team.  We just got the notification this evening that she made the JV team.  So proud of her!!!!

Pretty Princess

So proud of Lily, last week we received a phone call from her school letting us know that her Math teacher nominated her for Student of the Month for January.  They sent this wonderful postcard as well.

Also, despite COVID, we are actively planning for Lily's quinceanara.  This week we reserved a ballroom at a local golf club and a few weeks ago we played pretty princess dress up at a local quinceanara dress shop.

She was surprised at how much she liked the beaded bodice

She did not love the super poofy

January update

We started our new year with a nice little surprise.  We received some unexpected photographs of Lily's birth mom and sister.  Apparently, they were not able to receive the basket we sent them for Christmas before Christmas because the church that they are missionaries for sent them to northern Guatemala to help the victims of the hurricanes that devastated northern Guatemala just a month or two ago.

In other news, Lily started playing indoor soccer on a high school girls' team.  The coach seemed really great and was willing to let Lily try playing some different positions.  She feels most comfortable in defense, but I want her to spread her wings a little bit.  This past week while playing forward she scored a goal!  Her 2nd goal of her soccer career!  So proud!

A little fall fun

Fall fun has been a little more subdued this year due to Covid-19 concerns.  But we did manage to squeeze in a little bit of fun, even if it was a little delayed!

Yesterday, we were finally able to make it to Gaver Tree Farm for the very last day of their annual fall festival.  I am so glad that Lily (even when given a choice to bring a friend) humored her mama and went and spent time with me!  We had a good time eating apple cider donuts,  feeding and playing with the various farm animals, and playing a few games such as milk can toss and corn hold.   Plus we got a few great pictures!

Lily is such a gem.  She's getting so much older and I can feel these days are fleeting, before I know it she will be so busy and not have a lot of time for Mama! In one sense I feel like Covid has given me a little more time with her before she "launches" and for that I am thankful.

This week she even attended a virtual open house to explore career options at the Career and Technology Center in Frederick.  She's thinking about studying Criminal Justice and Homeland Security.  Again, so grown up, this mama can't stand it!

For Halloween, she humored me as well and went trick-or-treating with Nanna's family (Garrett and Michael).  I wasn't sure if she would go, but she did!  She threw together a makeshift teenager costume of a werewolf.  Regardless of what she dressed up, she still looked stunning!

The end of the 1st marking period of high school is coming to an end and she has done an amazing job!  I believe she is going to make the honor roll!  So proud of her.
